Mechanic Inspiration
So far through my blogs i have used and created some keywords you arent used to. here is my best mechanic and lore wise explenation of certain mechanics.
Flying: a creature with flying, cannot be blocked by creatures who cant fly, with one exception that is not relevant. this is meant to symbolize a creature that can fly being out of arms reach of other creatures.
Vigilance: a creature with vigilance doesn't tap in order to attack, meaning they can still block or activate abilities requiring them to tap. it is meant to symbolize experience and a second wind that allows the creature to be able to still stand after a fight.
First strike: A creature with first strike deals its combat damage before creatures without first strike, this means that a Rider of dawn can kill a creature with 5 power and 2 toughness and then because its opponent hasn't dealt damage yet, Rider of Dawn would live. flavor wise this is also used to show experience in combat as well as for quick creatures.
Double strike: Like first strike only the creature would also deal damage during regular combat, so if Rider of Dawn had double strike it cod deal 3 damage to a 1/6 during first strike and then another 3 when normal damage is dealt.
Venerated: this mechanic of my creation is the signature mechanic of this set. Venerated checks if a creatures base toughness or power is modified and then has an ability in this case it grants first strike. Axara guard tower also gives a way for your creatures to become venerated, by paying 2 white and tapping creatures you control get a +3 bonus to their defense. since their defense is now changed they become venerated. Venerated is supposed to show a progression in combat, as they fight more and learn more creatures gain new abilities they never had.
These are the main mechanics for my white commander precon.
